What are your thoughts for the elections? I was a little disappointed that PAP lost Aljunied to the WP. The parliment losing five capable people is a big deal. Even our Minister of Foreign Affairs is leaving the parliment. I cant help but feel sad for Mr George Yeo. I chanced upon a fb page/group that is titled "We want WP to win, but we still love you George Yeo". I think it is so ridiculous because obviously, WP winning = Losing Mr George Yeo. Sorry, but you cant get the best of both worlds all the time. So if you've already chosen to want WP to win, then dont come and shed crocodile tears and say you still love Mr George Yeo. It's perfectly fine to take sides, but just dont be a contradict and confuse everyone else. I live in Sengkang and my area is part of a SMC which means we are kind of on our own. PAP won in my area, so yay. Sometimes I log on to fb and I see some of my friends showing their support for the various opposition parties. I dont know about you, but I am kind of shocked at the amount of people who are pro-opposition. I mean, we all grew up knowing PAP all our lives and, I dont think they're doing a bad job at all. Sure, some would say that there are some areas that PAP should reflect and reconsider about (importing of foreign talents, expensive hdb flats, etc etc). But, I mean, I dont think it's possible to do things in order to please the citizens all the time right? As the government, of course they have to look at the big picture in order for the country to progress and prosper. They cant always be the good guy who gives rebates all the time, can they? Of course they have to play the bad guy who does things that Singaporeans dont like (eg. implementation of non-smoking areas in coffee shops ) sometimes but will benefit us in the long run. To me, I think they've done a pretty good job all these years and I'd like my children to grow up in the same environment I was in. Seeing the percentages of the votes this year frightens me. The margins are so close, it seems that nearly one third of Singaporeans are supporters of the opposition parties. I dont want to risk what Singapore has now to support some unknown parties who suddenly pops out of nowhere and wants our votes. Although I didnt get to vote this year, but all I want to say is that PAP will definitely get my vote in five years time.
